Good Food.

Good Health.

Good Future.

It all adds up.

At Kids’ Food Basket, we believe healthy food is a right, not a privilege, for every child.

Not all kids have consistent access to nutritious meals. Together, we can do something about it.

We are community-designed and powered.

Working collaboratively to meet the needs of every child and family we serve, we aim to pursue a hunger-free West Michigan in a way that promotes the experiences and passion of our local community.

Hunger

The lack of enough nutritious food.

Hunger encompasses all of the harmful effects of chronic malnourishment, including the inability to think clearly and function optimally. We seek to provide nutrient-dense options that fuel children with a healthier body and a happier life.

Equity

Achieved when everyone has what they need to thrive.

While equality refers to everyone having the same access to resources and opportunities, equity goes further. Equity is when everyone has what they need to thrive. Equity provides an effective framework for righting the wrongs of past injustices and empowers people to succeed and contribute to society in ways they were previously unable.

Food Equity

When the local food system adequately supports the needs of every person in the community.

We continue to address immediate needs as we strive for food equity. We increase access to healthy food and provide education for growing nutritious food at home. These are powerful, effective examples of immediate equitable food solutions. Additionally, to ensure long-term impact we contribute to the vision of food equity by advocating for policies, programs and structural changes that truly benefit all members of the community.

DEI Statement

Our mission is to nourish children to reach their full potential. To realize a hunger-free West Michigan for all children, we must work together as one community. Our collective impact will be determined by our ability to recognize the structural, historic and systemic barriers to food security and together create solutions. This is why diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is critical at Kids’ Food Basket. We are committed to investing time, energy and resources to create a culture of safety and belonging for all who engage with us. We strive to build a culture where every voice is heard, and all perspectives are valued. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
