Community Partnerships Nourishing Children One Apple at a Time

Umlor Orchards has been a champion of nutrition in West Michigan for many years.

What started as a one-time donation of apples for Sack Suppers grew into a partnership – providing our children with access to fresh and local produce.

As Kids’ Food Basket has grown into larger spaces, serving more schools, Umlor Orchards has grown with us and consistently supported getting healthy delicious apples into the hands of our community.

“We are a West Michigan company growing food in the very place that Kids’ Food Basket provides for. That is local people helping local people and that is what community means,” said Scott Morrison of Umlor Orchards. “Kids’ Food Basket provides the vehicle for us to do just that.”

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Kids’ Food Basket has experienced an increase in meal costs.

The support of Umlor Orchards has allowed Kids’ Food Basket to continuously show up, as our work is needed in the community, now, more than ever.

Good food is medicine in this time of major health disparities among all our neighbors.

“Not everyone has the same access to food and that has serious consequences for children at an important time in their lives when they are growing and building strong bodies, not to mention mental-health and a child’s sense of well-being,” said Morrison.

Consistent access to healthy food is key to breaking down barriers of poverty and building a stronger and healthier West Michigan.

Working with community partners, like Umlor Orchards, allows Kids’ Food Basket to provide our children access to healthy food.

It allows us to nourish their minds and bodies so that they can reach their full potential.

The generosity and support of Umlor Orchards over the years has strengthened our response to food access in West Michigan – providing daily essential nourishment to our community.

Wish list items and Supper Packs help us stay prepared for anything that may happen. From a Polar Vortex to Covid-19, Kids’ Food Basket works hard to always be there for our community. We can only continue to do this with your help!
